Pêche à Pra Loup : entre torrents et lacs d’altitude

Accueil 100% Nature Fishing in Pra Loup: between torrents and high-altitude lakes

In France, about 1.5 million people fish. This makes it the second largest federation in terms of number of members! A popular leisure activity that seduces outdoor enthusiasts and is a great gateway to nature, its mysteries, its balance… and the need to preserve it.

Fishing in Pra Loup, Ideal playground

Here, in the Southern Alps, nestled in the heart of the Ubaye valley, Pra Loup has everything the perfect spot for your next fishing session. Between crystal clear torrents, high-altitude lakes and breathtaking landscapes, there is enough to cast your line with a smile. The hardest part? Choose where to go!

And here, we have a little extra privilege: the municipality of Uvernet-Fours – to which Pra Loup belongs – is part of the Mercantour National Park’s membership zone. The result: a protected, preserved setting, which we explore with respect and wonder.

The high-altitude lake of Costebelle

It is the ideal place to indulge in the joys of fishing. Here it’s free and without a fishing permit!

Perched at an altitude of 2248 m, the Costebelle lake offers an exceptional setting for a mountain fishing trip. It is accessible in 2 hours of walking since the arrival of the Télémix de la Clappe.

Free and without a fishing permit, this high-altitude spot is open to all. Fishing is allowed with your own equipment, up to a limit of 2 catches per fisherman.

Our advice: equip yourself with good shoes, go with a picnic, and enjoy the beauty of the site

The high-altitude lake of Allos

It is the most emblematic lake in the Mercantour National Park. It is in these beautiful pure waters that specimens of char and brown trout evolve. Culminating at 2230m above sea level, it is the largest natural high-altitude lake in Europe.

Our advice: spend the night at the Lac d’Allos refuge to fish at sunrise, a magical sensation guaranteed!

The Bachelard torrent

The Bachelard is a wild and unspoilt mountain stream, ideal for summer fishing.
Accessible between Uvernet and Barcelonnette, it becomes more steep and secret upstream, offering calm and beautiful trout, sometimes over 30 cm. Its cool waters allow you to fish all day long, even in the middle of summer.

No-kill course (barbless hook): from the confluence with the Ubaye to the D908 bridge (Barcelonnette and Uvernet-Fours).

Our advice: choose the dry fly during the day, especially in fast water where trout are stationed in the sun – perfect for a session during the children’s nap!

A free activity… but framed to last

Fishing also means respecting a balance. Freedom to be in nature does not mean the absence of rules.

In Pra Loup as elsewhere, each fishing site is subject to specific regulations:

  • Fishing card required in most sectors
  • Minimum catch size
  • Number of captures allowed
  • Techniques authorised or prohibited depending on the body of water
  • Regulated opening times
  • Areas where the practice of no kill is encouraged or mandatory, especially for fly fishing and lure fishing, provided that a barbless hook is used

These rules are designed to preserve natural environments, promote the reproduction of species and guarantee a sustainable practice over time.
