Fly to Grenoble and hire a car. The availability of cheap flights and car hire provides you with a stress free and inexpensive way to be in control of your own holiday and not be at the mercy of package tour operators! Ryanair in particular seems hard to beat (discounted car hire available immediately after you book on ryanair.com). The beauty of the area almost necessitates the use of a car, you will want to go exploring! Specifically Barcelonnette (15 minutes away by car) has lots to offer, from stunning architecture to farmers markets, bars, restaurants, and charming regional shops providing everything you could wish for.
If you fly to Marseille, there is a bus service to Pra Loup every Saturday departing at 2pm. Return by reservation (Saturdays only), which we can arrange for you upon request. 
Or hire a car, you can travel on the motorway for the majority of the journey, the trip takes just under 3 hours !
